Mariner fills in for Blue Thunder

The members of the Mariner High School drum line filled in at the last minute on Jan. 11 to lead the Special Olympics Parade in downtown Seattle, when the state team's athlete roster was announced for the USA Games, being hosted in Seattle this summer. Special education teacher Punkie Doyle, who is active in Special Olympics, had heard that Blue Thunder, the Seattle Seahawks drum line, had canceled their scheduled performance to lead the athletes and suggested the Mariner drum line could fill in. The band led the procession through a fine morning rain.
