Rigby Wranglers win annual fundraiser game

Jefferson Star, The (ID) - 5/4/2016

Rigby demonstrated its support for the Rigby Wranglers, with around 300 spectators in attendance, for the 5th Annual Rigby Wranglers versus Rigby Trojans Special Olympics fundraiser basketball game April 27.

The event raised $2,673.41 in a fun-filled, heartwarming night for all in attendance. The Wranglers spearheaded the scoring with several made triples beyond the arc. Rigby's special Olympians opened the game up by jumping ahead 6-0 and they wouldn't look back from there, running away from the Trojans with a 164-31 lopsided win.

The Wranglers defense strangled the Trojans' offense by grabbing steal after steal. And before you knew it, the Wranglers were up by 30 points. Their phenomenal defense managed to hold the Trojans to just 31 points. Meanwhile the Wranglers managed to rack up 164 points.

Just seeing the pure joy in the faces of the players on the team would be enough to get anyone to show up to this event. But the ambiance of this year's game was a little bit different. Head Trojan boys' basketball coach Justin Jones, the Rigby High School Pep Band and 15 Rigby High School cheerleaders were integral parts of the game and heightened the atmosphere by pumping up players even more.

Trojan student and adult supporters that came to the game were vocally supportive of the Wranglers as well. The halftime show was also loaded with a performance from Libby Bailey of Dance Unlimited who came and performed for those in attendance followed by the auctioning off of pies.

In addition to that, Rigby Booster Todd Stowell also came to shoot t-shirts out of his hand-held cannon into the crowd.
