TTUHSC to host inaugural Autism Education Conference

Mar. 28—Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Office of Accredited Interprofessional Continuing Medical Education will host the Autism Education ConferenceApril 5 at the TTUHSC Academic Classroom Building, located at 801 W. 4th St. in Odessa.

While early intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is emphasized, there is a notable deficiency in addressing the evolving health care needs of adults with ASD. Bridging this gap requires targeted educational initiatives to enhance professionals' knowledge and skills in delivering holistic care, ultimately improving outcomes and quality of life for individuals with ASD at every stage of life.

This conference aims to address these issues by providing insights, strategies, resources and best practices for health care professionals to adopt a comprehensive, lifespan approach to ASD care, covering both pediatric and adult populations.

Conference topics will include:

— ASD overview

— Diagnostic approaches and treatment

— ADHD and Autism: identifying both

— Emerging research

— Guardianship, transition and collaboration

— Physician-led discussion panel

Physicians, nurses and other health care professionals are invited to attend. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Participants may attend a resource fair from 4 to 5 p.m. Cost for the event is $25 for physicians, nurses and other health care team members, $20 for all community members and free admission for medical students.
