Take the plunge for a good cause.
The Northwest Herald - 2/7/2018
Since 1999, the Polar Plunge annually challenges thousands of brave
and warm-hearted participants at numerous locations around the state.
It's a great way for everyone ? individuals, organizations and businesses
? to get involved in supporting Special Olympics Illinois! The concept is
simple: participants raise a minimum of $100 and take a dip into the
frigid winter waters of an Illinois lake (23 locations statewide). But the
Polar Plunge is so much more than that; it's the kind of fun and thrilling
event that one must experience to understand!
All funds raised allow our organization to provide quality programming
and events for athletes throughout Illinois. These training and competition
opportunities are provided free of charge to the athletes and their families,
enabling everyone to experience the benefits of Special Olympics ? which
extend well beyond the playing field.
Special Olympics Illinois (SOILL) provides year-round sports training and athletic
competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children
and adults with intellectual disabilities. Through programming in sports, health,
education and community building, SOILL is transforming lives! SOILL provides
opportunities for more than 23,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities, more
than 20,000 Young Athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities,
45,000 volunteers and thousands more people statewide through local programs
in all 102 counties of the state.
