APTUS is an ergonomically designed computer work center for persons with physical disabilities. An automated integration of a chair and a computer workstation, APTUS adjusts the working environment to the body, instead of the other way around. By using four small motors to position the seat, monitor and keyboard, APTUS allows the user to work in a range of positions from reclined to standing. Taking up no more space than the average desk and chair, the APTUS chair consists of an open seat, headrest, footrest, arm and wrist support. A compact, central structure holds a horizontal pivot axis which supports the seat. The axis allows the seat to move from a reclined position to forward-tilt positions. The adjustable arm can support a keyboard tray and a right or left hand mouse or track ball, a 24 inch x 36 inch input tablet, and monitors ranging in size up to 27 inches. The arm is also attached to the pivot axis. Because everything is connected, the components act as an extension of the body. When the body moves, everything else follows. CAPACITY: 275 pounds. WEIGHT: 400 pounds.
