Eagles Autism Challenge to return for a second year, raised millions for autism research

Patriot-News - 9/12/2018

Sept. 12--After raising more than $2.5 million towards autism research, the Eagles Autism Challenge is returning for a second year.

The event is put on by the Philadelphia Eagles. It's a day long fundraiser with cycle rides and a 5K run/walk. It will be held on May 18, 2019 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the country, according to the Center for Disease Control. One in 59 Americans under the age of 21 are on the autism spectrum.

The Eagles Autism Challenge's goal is to raise money for autism awareness, programs and research. The funds raised from it go towards Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Drexel University and Thomas Jefferson University. The 2019 event is also taking in applications from other Philadelphia institutions looking to fund their autism research.

More than 3,300 people participated in the 2018 Eagles Autism Challenge's ride, walk and run, getting donations from 24,700 people from 20 different countries.

The 2019 event includes three cycling routes: a 15-mile ride, 30-mile ride and 50-mile ride. It'll also have a 5K run/walk and a 5K Sensory Walk.

Those who participate will be able to attend the Kick-Off Party and Finish LIne Celebration, as well as receive a jersey or t-shirt, medal and complimentary gift bag.

To join up with the challenge go to eaglesautismchallenge.org. Registration fees are $150 for cyclists and $50 for runners/walkers. There are also fundraising minimums for those participating, ranging from $250 to $1,000 depending on the event that they participate in. There are also fundraising milestones that have their own rewards, including autograph memorabilia and chances to meet players.
