BRIEF: Ducks leave ice for hardwood in Special Olympics fundraiser

Feb. 22--The Point Mallard Ducks hockey team will leave the ice Friday for a basketball court in a fundraiser for Special Olympics.

The Ducks will play the Morgan County Showtime Special Olympics basketball team at 7 p.m. at Fort Decatur Recreation Center.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations to Morgan County Special Olympics will be accepted in an effort to help fund trips for local athletes to the state games.

Formed two years ago, Morgan County Showtime, Decatur Parks and Recreation'sSpecial Olympics team, plays against special needs teams from Decatur High, Hartselle High, Brewer and West Morgan high schools, Lawrence County High, Center for the Developmentally Disabled, Ability Plus in Madison and the Birdie Thornton and Bill Stewart centers in Athens and Moulton.
