Chris Hocker to run for Guilford school board's District 6 seat

Feb. 13--GREENSBORO -- Chris Hocker has announced he will run for the District 6 seat on the Guilford County Board of Education.

Hocker, a Democrat, said he is a website designer and runs a North Carolina travel and culture website.

He also said he is the former chair of both Autism Unbound and the Guilford County chapter of Autism Society of North Carolina. He is currently an Autism Speaks Volunteer Advocacy Ambassador.

His goals include working to close the achievement gap, increasing vocational offerings and guidance, and creating additional offerings for students with special needs.

"I have long been a voice for the special needs community in Guilford County," Hocker said in an email. "It's time for me to use my experience to become a voice for all students, families, and teachers in Guilford County."

The District 6 seat is one of dozens of local, state and federal seats up for election this year.

Candidates can file for office through noon Feb. 28. at the Guilford CountyBoard of Elections Office at 301 W. Market St. in Greensboro or at 325 E. Russell Ave. in High Point.

The primary election will be May 8. The general election will be Nov. 6.
