Register for autism program

The Autism Society of Texas is in a recruitment phase for Access Austin, a personalized program for adults with autism focused on life skills and employment.

The program offers assistance with resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, vocational skill training, job connections and volunteer opportunities to help adults with autism receive employment.

Luncheon celebrates seniors

The Austin Senior Resource Alliance will host a luncheon to celebrate local seniors at 11:30 a.m.Aug. 21 at the Norris Conference Center, Suite 365, 2525 W. Anderson Lane.

The luncheon will feature honorees representing six senior living communities around Austin who will be recognized. The individuals will have their stories told through video vignettes.

BEE CAVE

Library to close for remodel

The Bee Cave Public Library will be closed from Aug. 29 to Sept. 9 to remodel the children's area with new furniture and shelving and with new carpeting throughout the library.

During this time, library materials may be returned to the outdoor book drops but staff will not be able to check out any items or fill holds or inter-library loan requests.

This project is made possible by the city of Bee Cave and grants from the Tocker Foundation and the Friends of Bee Cave Public Library.

Foundation holds fundraiser

The Dream Come True Foundation will hold the Dreams of the Old West fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m.Sept. 21 at Brodie Homestead, 5211 Brodie Lane.

The fundraiser will include a silent auction, dinner, dancing, live entertainment and stories from those the group has helped.

The nonprofit organization, founded in 2008, helps put members of families in poverty into sustainable careers via mentorships, tutoring, financial assistance and a network of career development and training resources.

Fundraiser Sunday for center

The Creedmoor Community Center Friends Association will host the Third Sunday Serenade to raise money for the center and the surrounding park and playground area.

The concert will take place from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the center, 12511 FM 1625. The show will feature Al Dressen's Super Swing Revue performing western swing and classic country.

The cost is $10 per person; ages 12 and younger are free. A catfish dinner will be available.

Learn Texas-style landscaping

"Landscaping Texas Style," a seminar presented by Williamson County Master Gardeners, will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Oct. 14 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension building, 3151 SE Inner Loop.

The seminar will feature experts in their fields of expertise discussing research-based and Earth-Kind landscape techniques that provide central Texas landscapes while protecting the environment. Topics will include irrigation, plant and tree selection for the area, maintaining turf grasses and dealing with insects in the landscape.

The cost is $50 and includes lunch and printed materials in a binder from each speaker. Space is limited.

Learn about flash flooding

The Hays County office of emergency services will offer a new educational class for the general public to learn more about flash flooding from 6 to 8 p.m.Sept. 6.

The class, "Flash Flooding: Know the Dangers," will be at the Kyle Fire Department, 210 W. Moore St. The class is geared toward residents who want to understand why flash floods are common in Hays County and how to prepare for them.

The National Weather Service will present this course locally and in other areas of the United States prone to flash floods.

Business development talk set

The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce and Greater San Marcos Partnership will host a free talk from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, 2313 Red River St., in Austin.

The event will feature information on how to start a business, including figuring out how to fill a need, identifying concepts, business plans, funding and partners; a question-and-answer period with entrepreneur Jackson Dyre-Borowicz; and a networking reception.
