Cooks and artists sought for Zillah market event

Yakima Herald-Republic - 8/3/2017

Aug. 03--Community SEEDS will host a chili cookoff and art show and auction as part of the 17th annual Zillah Chamber of Commerce More than a Farmers Market event on Sept. 9.

SEEDS is a nonprofit organization supporting adults with autism and other disabilities. Proceeds from the chili cookoff and art show and auction will go to SEEDS' new cat cafe and bakery, which will provide jobs for adults with autism and other disabilities.

Local cooks are invited to enter the cookoff, which will be judged by a panel of local celebrity judges, for a chance to win cash prizes. Entries are limited to the first 20 applicants, and the entry fee is $20. Those attending may taste and vote for their favorite chili by purchasing a ticket for $5.

Judge's Choice and People's Choice winners each get $100; the Best Chili Name winner will receive $75.

Artists are also needed for the art show and auction. Artists may apply for a booth or donate an item to the auction. Applications for the cookoff and artist donation/vendor forms can be found on the Community SEEDS website, www.seedsyv.wix.com/communityseeds, or by calling 509-731-7761 or emailing seeds.yv@gmail.com.

The chamber is adding several new activities to the event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Stewart Park.

There will be disability-friendly kids art and science activities, cat paw painting with Meet Pete! activities. Pete is the SEEDs cat cafe ambassador. Live chainsaw carving, a beer garden and wine tasting and dancing will also be featured.
