New Local Salsa Studio Hosts Autism Awareness Benefit

The Queens Gazette - 4/30/2017

Salsa In Queens is partnering with AutismRadio.org to raise funds for autism awareness. The new Astoria based dance studio will host a monthly Salsa Social, starting on Friday, April 28, and they will be donating a portion of the proceeds to AutismRadio.org. The $15 entrance fee includes a 4-hour party with a live DJ and a free salsa class. Plus, they will be raffling off some prizes.

This is the second year AutismRadio.org has partnered with a local business to raise money for autism. Last year, the Long Island UFC gym participated in the fundraiser with their event, Grappling for Autism, and raised over $2,000. Brandon Adames, UFC JiuJitsu instructor and liaison for AutismRadio.org, said, "People on the spectrum have proven to be arts-inclined. This year, we wanted the event to be arts-based and what better way to do that than through the art of dance." The studio expects to raise over $2,500 this year.

As part of the campaign this year, there will also be GoFundMe page for those who cannot attend the social, but would like to donate.

The Salsa Social, on Friday, April 28, starts at 9 pm and goes until 2 am.

The studio is located on 34-27 Steinway Street in Astoria, between 34th and 35th Avenues.
