BRIEF: Xenia woman fears husband will be deported to Mexico

Dayton Daily News - 4/12/2017

April 12--A Xenia woman is worried her husband will be deported to Mexico after she said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) denied his latest motion to stay.

Eliseo Pereyra works at a Dayton restaurant, pays taxes and supports his family, according to his wife, Crystal Pereyra. She said their 11-year-old son has Asperger's Syndrome, and her husband has helped raise her 18-year-old daughter.

Crystal said ICE has granted her husband's motion to stay for a number of years, but their immigration attorney said Pereyra was turned down this time even though the Columbus ICE officers have been supportive of the family.

Crystal got word Wednesday that her husband's next scheduled report date was pushed from April 19 until October. Crystal, 39, said she's been married to Eliseo for 12 years.

The Xenia family's concerns come after a Butler County woman was taken into custody, moved to a Columbus-area detention facility, then transferred Tuesday to Louisiana, where she was awaiting deportation to Mexico.
