Work begins on Orleans facility for autistic adults

Feb. 05--ORLEANS -- Cape Cod Village broke ground Monday afternoon on a residential development for 15 adults with autism and a community resource center on 4 acres at 19 Childs Homestead Way, behind Mid-Cape Home Centers.

Residents will receive 24-hour supervision, according to a statement from Cape Cod Village, which was founded in 2011 by Bob and Lauren Jones, whose son Alexander has autism.

The community resource center will provide educational, recreational and social opportunities for residents of the village as well as other Cape residents with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities, the statement says.

Cape Cod Village has 11 funding sources from federal, state and county levels of government, executive director Susan Johnson said in the statement. In addition, seven Lower Cape towns have supported the project through Community Preservation Act funds, as have individual and organizational donors, she said.
