Neediest Families Fund: Mom, children grateful for warm clothing

Nov. 30--Diana Fedora has received assistance from the Salvation Army before, but things have not gotten any better since last year. Facing a possible diagnosis the same week she applied for assistance, she is trying to remain positive for her three children.

Michael is 11, 3-year-old Avyanna has Down syndrome and autism, and Ashlyon, 2, also has been diagnosed with autism.

Diana said the family still lives in housing that had a fire last year. "Avyanna has PTSD from it," the mother said. "If the alarm goes off, she gets petrified and shakes with fear." Fedora said she would love to be able to find new housing.

"I am hoping for toys that will help them learn more," she said.

Traditionally, the children's uncle gets them a Christmas tree, and on Christmas they go to grandma and grandpa's house to open presents.

"This program has been a blessing," she said of the Neediest Families Fund and The Salvation Army.

Michael likes to watch YouTube and play Xbox. Avyanna likes books and puzzles and playing with baby dolls. Ashlynn likes arts and crafts.

"The children are in need of winter clothing with long sleeves," Diana said about the two clothing items that are provided to each child. The children are sizes 10, 6X and 4T.

"I love these kids more than words can explain," Fedora said.
