Sensory-friendly performance of 'Grinch' returns to Old Globe Theatre -- this time with extra events

Nov. 27--As "Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" celebrates its 21st season at the Old Globe, the theater's sensory-friendly performance of the holiday show has become a tradition all its own.

And this year, it arrives in an expanded form, with numerous free "AXIS" events on Copley Plaza outside the Globe.

The "Grinch" performance itself -- geared toward those on the autism spectrum and their families, as well as others with special needs -- begins at 10:30 a.m.Dec. 1. It includes such accommodations as toned-down lighting and sound, quiet areas in the lobby and plenty of volunteer assistance.

But the festivities actually start at 9:30 a.m. with a concert by the band Jungle Poppins, led by the ability-awareness artist, activist and podcaster extraordinaire Reid Moriarty.

After the show, there'll be a "Grinch" sing-along workshop with the gifted musician-actor Paul Eddy, and then (after a short break) an autism-friendly, "Grinch"-inspired improv workshop with ace educator and theater artist Samantha Ginn.
